Tension can work best if you give the audience some hope, so ease the tension slightly by shooting a fast dolly from the side to show the character’s pace.

There’s a brief cutaway to Foxx’s feet striding through the grass, then the camera is placed directly in front of Foxx and it dollies backward at his pace. This is a moment of change in the dynamic. By placing him centrally in the frame, and striding purposefully, it feels as though he is taking control of the situation. If the camera was stationary, it would feel like he was still in desperate pursuit, but the backward dolly makes it feel like he’s driving the pace.
